Meet Alyssa

I’m Alyssa Jimenez, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the State of New Jersey. I have over 10 years of experience in various mental health settings including partial hospitalization programming, inpatient crisis facilitation for adolescents, inpatient substance abuse rehabilitation, and group private practice. I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Human Services with concentration in Clinical Services from the University of Delaware and my Master of Arts in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University.

I enjoy working with individuals on exploring self improvement goals and increasing positive mood. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and self esteem issues. I believe in a client centered approach where we work together on finding the path to your personal needs.

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help you learn to change the way you think and feel about yourself and your stressors. I also use a Mindfulness Based approach to aid in developing coping skills for a variety of issues.

I accept you as you are. Whatever you bring to session, I pledge that we will work through it together.

My self care includes trying new coffee shops, playing with my son, spending time outside, watching reality TV and exploring local markets.

Services

Individual Counseling

One-on-one sessions that focus on your personal goals—whether reducing anxiety, building self-esteem, or overcoming life transitions—crafted after your first session.

Session length varies from 53-60 minutes depending on your needs for the day.

Sessions are offered via telehealth or in person at our office in Wall, NJ. Clients who participate in telehealth MUST be located in the State of New Jersey at the time of each session.

Servicing ages 16+

Breathing Room Psychotherapy is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare.

We are not in network with Medicaid plans.

It is recommended to confirm your benefits with your insurance plan prior to making an appointment.

Self pay rates are available upon request.

Insurance

During your first session, we will review practice policies and I can answer any questions you might have. I will then conduct an assessment of your needs based on your history and known goals for treatment. Don’t worry, it’s not a test. It will feel like a conversation. We will use this assessment to identify therapeutic goals together.

If you feel we are a good fit, your follow up appointments will be where we work towards change. Sometimes that looks like identifying tools to cope with anxiety. Sometimes that looks like getting angry about what your partner said last night. Both are welcome!

What to Expect

How do I know which type of counseling is right for me?

In our initial appointment, we’ll explore your current challenges and goals. From there, we will identify a treatment plan that makes sense for you both clinically and practically. I believe you need to be equally as invested in our plan in order to really commit to making change.


How often should I come to therapy?

We will discuss this concern in our first session! The decision is based on your needs and your goals. Remember, this is a collaborative process. We will find a sweet spot that makes sense from both of our perspectives.


What if I don’t agree with your suggestions?

I am a firm believer that for therapy to work, you need to feel comfortable to speak your mind. I am always open to feedback about needing to try something new or to approach a topic differently. As your therapist, I want to push you, but in a gentle and empathic way.
